Bidean nam Bian 1150 m 26/05/01 Heureusement le jour qui s'ensuivit fut radieux, et propice à une belle bambée. Les 3 Soeurs de Glencoe avaient depuis toujours attiré mon attention depuis la route en bas de la vallée, et il fallait absolument faire ce massif prédominant dans la région, dont mes amis du SUMC m'avaient dit qu'ils avaient fait l'ascension plus tôt ce printemps là. Cette montagne est en vérité superbe sous tous les points de vue, et je la classe parmi les tous meilleurs de mes Munros. Si son aspect semblait un peu trapu vu du Sud depuis Sgor Nah Ulaidh, son côté Nord renferme trois spectaculaires cirques, qui ne sont pas sans rappeler, à une échelle réduite certes, le Mont Perdu des Pyrénées. Luckily the day after was perfectly sunny, and ideal for a fine gruelling trip. The 3 Sisters of Glencoe had always kept my attention from the road downside in the valley, and it was absolutely compulsory to do this proeminent massif in the region, whose my friends of the SUMC told me that they did the climb earlier this spring. This mountain is in reality superb from all points of view, and I would sort it amongst my very best Munros ever. If its aspect looked quite stocky seen from South from Sgor Nah Ulaidh, its North side contains three spectacular cirques, which are remembering at a reduced scale, the Pyrénées's Mont Perdu.

Le Loch Actriochtan, qui se trouve dans le fond plat de la vallée, et "la" crête de Glencoe, célèbre randonnée vertigineuse formée par Meall Dearg et Sgorr nam Fiannaidh, que l'on voit ici en montant.

Vue au Sud sur Sgor Nah Ulaidh, faite durant mon année en hiver 99 lors d'une randonnée mémorable, et à l'Ouest sur les 2 sommets d'hier de Ben a'Bheithir.

A gauche au dessus du Loch Etive, Ben Cruachan au loin dépasse. A droite, c'est le célèbre Ben Nevis, plus haut sommet d'Ecosse. 2 Hollandais à côté de moi croient qu'il n'est pas visible plus de 5 jours par ans et ne cessent de s'émerveiller. Juste en dessous, les sommets des Mamores.
On the left upside Loch Etive, Ben Cruachan jut out above On the right, it is the famous Ben Nevis, highest summit of Scotland. 2 Dutch people next to me believe that its summit isn't visible more than 5 days per year and are filled with wonder. Just below, few of the summits of the Mamores.

Là, j'hésite entre deux possibilités: me diriger vers Stob Coire nan Lochan, fière antécîme qui sépare 2 grands cirques, ou vers Stob Coire Sgreamhach, moins intéressant mais paraît il devenu Munro récemment à la suite de fluctuations altimétriques... Je me dis qu'après tout il est stupide de se priver de l'option la plus attrayante, et ce dernier sera de mise le jour hypothétique où je ferai le trop petit Buachaille Etive Beag... Then, I am hesitating between two possibilities: going ahead to Stob Coire nan Lochan, proud summit separating 2 wide cirques, or to Stob Coire Sgreamhach, less interesting but said to have become aMunro recently, due to altimetric fluctuations... I told myself that after all it would be stupid to give up the most interesting option, and that this one will be the hypothetic day when I will do the too small Buachaille Etive Beag... Après un raccourci malicieux par un balcon qui relie le Coire nan Lochan au Coire Gabhail, vue sur ce dernier splendide cirque, dont le fond est entaillé par une vertigineuse gorge.
After a malicious shortcut through a rocky balcony from Coire nan Lochan to Coire Gabhail, view to this last splendid cirque, whose bottom is cracked by a vertiginous gorge.

A mi-chemin en redescendant de Coire Gabhail, le relief redevient un large replat, où le ruisseau disparait sous la roche. C'est la fameuse "vallée cachée", où les autrefois les fermiers cachaient le bétail lors des visites des Anglais. On imagine mal comment ceux-cis ont pu y conduire leurs bêtes, à travers la suite du notre chemin qui devient un sentier en sous bois chaotique. Phénomène curieux à ne pas louper: la réapparition du ruisseau sous un rocher, commme par pression en crachant des bulles d'air. Puis on arrive enfin en bas, mais il nous faut retourner au point de départ.

At half way while climbing down the Coire Gabhail, relief becomes a wide flat, where the stream disappears underground. It is the famous "hidden valley", where the farmers in the past time used to hide their cattles from the English. We hardly can imagine how could they lead their beasts there, through what is the rest of our way, becoming a chaotic path underwood. Curious phenomenon not to miss: the return of the stream from under a rock, just like by pressure splitting air bubbles. Then we arrive downside, and we must return to the starting point.
